The anniversary volume contains a description of the ancient Egyptian writing systems. The amount of the included information is sufficient to start self-education. This is the first monograph in the Egyptian Texts series dealing particularly with philology, epigraphy and paleography. Almost all examples, which illustrate the phrase and sentence structures, are taken from the original texts from the 5th dynasty till the Roman period. Section Hieroglyphic texts chrestomathy contains extracts from thirty original historical inscriptions and literary compositions. Section Hieratic texts chrestomathy contains the samples of several handwritings from forty texts of different genres. Section Demotic texts chrestomathy includes extracts from fifteen original texts. Section Catalogue of signs is a table of concordance with one hundred and eighty signs of three ancient Egyptian writing systems.
