The Stelae of Padiimhotep and Berenice

Göttinger Miszellen. 2023. Hft. 269. S. 179–189

The current article discusses the hieroglyphic text inscribed on the Ptolemaic stela from Sakkara published in 2020. The owner of the stela is a priest Padiimhotep, who served in the temples of Letopolis and Memphis, and named an attendant of the king. A new copy of inscription and a number of new interpretations are proposed. On the basis of the comparison with the monuments from the same area the stela supposedly dates back to 40s regnal years of Ptolemy VIII. Commentaries are accompanied by the translations of two stelae: the one under discussion, the second belongs to his sister Berenice (BM 383). The conclusion is made that their mother Arsinoe nursed the future ruler of Egypt, namely Ptolemy VIII.
